8th March is celebrated as International Women’s Day. And there is of course this huge hue and cry about why do we have a Womens Day and not Mens Day if equality is what we desire. And in an ideal world that is a correct ask. But the fact of the matter is that a lot of women do not get the same treatment as men do from childhood to death in many parts of the country. Women are still the weaker sex. Women are still expected to abide by the rules and regulations of the patriarchal society where she MUST do things as per the wishes of the male member of the family/society. These latest comments being made by “advocates of law” in documentaries are a sign of the regressive society we live in.
Anyways, I do not want to get started with the debate because I am quite a feminist and my opinions are too radical for a fashion and lifestyle blog. Men – let’s just say that we celebrate this day to only remind ourselves that we too are an equal part of this society and we too are totally responsible for how this is shaping up. This is to remind us women to be nice to other women cause we girls need to stick to each other. We celebrate this day to be inspired and inspire others.
And that is exactly what the Cupcakes and Closet new campaign on #Selfmade is all about. It is an effort to help inspire women to grow – get educated and become financially independent.
