This is a long overdue post. When I say long overdue – I mean it has been sitting in my drafts folder for over 2 years. Yes that old!
On our 2nd anniversary in 2013, AB and I decided to head out to Wayanad for celebrations. We did not want to spend a lot of money, but wanted a good experience too (don’t we all). We looked for a lot of options in Wayanad – we wanted to stay in a resort that had a spa and some indoor and outdoor activities. Out of all those that we saw Blue Ginger Resorts fit the bill perfectly. It was a resort that had all kinds of lodging options – tree house, cottages and rooms. It also had a spa and stream flowed right through the resort. Their youtube video was enough to motivate us to book them. Plus they were within our budget.
Destination: We chose Wayanad. The high point of Wayanad is the Western Ghats with dense forests and deep valleys. It is a refreshing change from the hustle bustle of Bangalore.
Travel: We booked the AC Semi-Sleeper Volvo buses to Wayanad. It is an overnight bus journey that starts at 11:00pm from the Shanthinagar Bus Stop and reaches Wayanad by 7am in the morning the next day. There are many options of transport services – KSRTC/Kallada Travels and the likes. We traveled by Kallada Travels and reached Wayanad Bus Stop by 7:30am. We called up the reception desk at our resort and they sent a Thar to pick us up and drop us at the resort. The road from the Bus Stop to the Blue Ginger Spa Resorts was uneven to say the least and Thar is the best mode of transport for such route.
Resort: We had booked a 2 nights 3 days package APAI (All meals included) plan for Rs. 16000 inclusive of a couple spa. The folks at the resort took 50% of the payment in advance and the rest on our arrival. They let us into our room by 9:00 AM even though the check-in time was 12:00 noon. We had booked the Chembra cottages, but since we wanted an early check-in we got the Tranquil rooms. Ofcourse, the cost was adjusted and we had to pay lesser. The rooms were comfortable and had a valley view. The view was spectacular.
Activities: The resort had a bonfire with music every night. Our package also included a couple massage for which you need to make an appointment beforehand. We also had a trek included in the plan. The trek guide was super. He actually took us to the highest peak in the resort. We trekked along the path of a local stream. It was probably the most adventurous and daunting thing I have ever done on my anniversary. I also got a leech bite (which by the way totally freaked me out) on my way!
All in all – we spent around Rs. 15000 for this trip inclusive of the bus tickets and it was a great way to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. Tell me if you guys have been to Wayanad? What other places have you been to near Bangalore. Any suggestions for me?
